iClarify

This document will introduce iClarify as well as provide tips and explanations on how to use the information provided by the iClarify validation engine.

Introduction

Applied Rating Services is proud to now offer our brokers iClarify, a unique business solution bringing clarity to the insurance-to-value issue, developed by Opta Information Intelligence. Engage more efficiently with your clients using this innovative software which allows you to instantaneously validate property information. This cutting-edge tool acts as a convenient single point of access.

iClarify's data validation application works to confirm information provided by your client throughout the quoting phase. Eleven key data elements particular to each residence, including accurate square footage and year built, are displayed on your screen to help you validate information provided by your client.

The comprehensive data used to validate consumer reporting pertains to construction features, age and size of residences within a refined geographical radius of each other. Based on your client's geographical location and the amount of aggregated data available from the area, the eleven key data element are derived. A combination of quantified and visual intelligence, iClarify will also supply you with street-level and birds-eye digital photographs of individual residences and neighbourhood views. In effect, approach homeowners with a more confident, detailed understanding of their property and surroundings, which will ultimately enhance the broker-client relationship.

As Canada's largest and leading provider of inspection services Opta Information Intelligence is uniquely positioned to provide the most accurate response to the ITV issue as its knowledge of property construction features and replacement costs is unmatched by any other vendor. Furthermore, iClarify data is derived from Opta's access to the greatest repository of total loss records nation-wide. The benefits enjoyed by our brokers through linking with the iClarify solution are evident - increased awareness and accuracy of property details and a consistent, user-friendly approach.

Addressing Tips

There are two different types of addresses that exist in Canada. It is important to note that there can be a difference between a MAILING address and a PHYSICAL address. iClarify requires PHYSICAL addresses.

A MAILING address is used by the post office to deliver mail to rural addresses and cannot be used to travel to that address. It is impossible to determine the physical location of the property.

A typical mailing address could be described by:

R.R. #5 OWEN SOUND ON M0A 1A0
PO BOX 3 OWEN SOUND ON M0A 1A0

This address will not return an accurate property location.

A PHYSICAL address describes the physical location of the property and can be used to travel to that address.

There a two type of physical addresses: Legal and Civic

Legal addresses describe the property from a property assessment aspect. A typical property could be described by:

LOT 3, BLOCK 2, Grey Township, OWEN SOUND, ON, M0A1B3

Civic addresses describe the property from and street based aspect. A typical property could be described by:

100 Main Street, OWEN SOUND, ON M0A1B3

iClarify does not currently support legal address resolution.

When determining if an address is appropriate to describe the location of the property in iClarify, use this test:

  1. Can I drive to the property?
  2. Can I take a photograph of the home using this address?

If the answer is no, then the iClarify response will not be optimal.

For best results, use the Address Lookup Screen to determine the address information.

Using the Address Lookup Screen

If the dwelling address has been previously defined, the ITV tool will attempt to validate the dwelling information upon launch. A list of dwellings that meet the address information criteria is presented to the user.

If the dwelling address has not been previously defined, start typing the dwelling address in manually. After the third letter of the street address, addresses will appear below for selection. If the desired address is not displayed or the list is long continue with additional letters until the desired address is located.

The user then selects the appropriate address from the list below by clicking on the address and then selecting the “Select Address” button. This returns the user to the ITV screen and updates the address information. The "Validate Dwelling" button may need to be selected to initiate the dwelling validation process.

Manual Address Update

If the complete address could not be provided from the Address Lookup screen, manually update the address following these guidelines.

  • The postal code should be complete and correct.
  • The municipality field should be the name of the city, town, village etc. Regional municipality names or county name should only be used if there is no other name available. This field should contain only one name. If the search does not return the desired results then this is the first place to try some alternate names of the municipality.
  • The street address of the property should be a similar style to:
    28A Main Street East
  • The street address should not contain:
    • RR numbers
    • Legal Lot designations
    • Municipality, city, survey or subdivision names
  • Some guidelines for the address elements:
    Street Number
    No spaces
Partial addresses are acceptable, for example: 28a
Half addresses should be in this format 28 1/2 (28½)
    No suites or unit numbers
    Street Name
    Only the street name
Street names like St George should be either St George, ST George or Saint George (No punctuation).
    Street Type
Canada Post recognized types and abbreviations.
    Street Direction
    Use when applicable
Canada Post recognized directions and abbreviations.

Validated Data / Images

iClarify provides aggregate construction data common to a particular geo coded vicinity in your province. In addition, it provides visual data from satellite and street view imagery (where available) to provide tremendous insight into the property you are about to insure. The service is designed to help you verify the information presented to you at time of quote by the consumer. iClarify utilizes information from various sources including inspection, claims and assessment data to generate the most common characteristics particular to an address.

Our partners at iLookabout have photographed streetscape images in municipalities with populations 4000 and greater. While the service is already providing a great deal of accuracy, iClarify is ever evolving and will continue to provide enhanced accuracy as Opta Information Intelligence, Applied Rating Services, and iLookabout continue to harvest more and more data across Canada. Thank you for helping us launch this service in order to help bring clarity and validity to the quoting process.

iClarify Assignment

You will notice that when exiting the Applied ITV or Applied PropertyRater software, you will be asked to assign to which insurer you intend to place the business with. This information is necessary as most insurance companies have agreed to cover the fee of the iClarify product as long as the business is placed with them. We use the answer you provide in this field to assign the cost of the iClarify report to that company. We ask to you ensure you assign as accurately as possible and if a quote needs to be re-assigned that you do so when re-quoting. This will ensure the insurers will only pay for their share of the iClarify reports.

What if I select Unknown as the insurer on the iClarify Assignment screen?

Primarily, we want you to assign to the insurer you will write the business with. If you do not know at the time you exit Applied Rating Services, you should select Unknown. If you finalize the business at a later date, we ask that you re-assign to the proper insurer then. At this time, the iClarify reports that are not assigned to an insurer will not be billed to you. At this time, Applied Rating Services has agreed to waive any fees associated with Unknown assignments.
